Blackboards are closely linked to the scientific process, which uses mathematical methods. They are an open research platform (commons) where researchers with various hypotheses can gather, discuss, and share their ideas to deepen their thinking. The mathematical formulas and diagrams that fill the blackboard may seem like traces of some kind of mysticism, but these traces are none other than the product of the thinking of researchers seeking to uncover hidden truths and universalize them through mathematical formulas. This video captures the daily activities of Professor Koji Hashimoto, students, and other researchers in front of the blackboard in his office at the Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University, as they think and discuss.
