About

Hayato Nishimura (b. 1977, Izumo, Japan) is a visual artist based in Kawagoe, Japan.

His photographic practice has focused on the relationship between individuals in unique locations or situations and their surrounding environments, creating series that suggest these singular worlds. Alongside photographic works inspired by scientific research sites and science itself, he continues to photograph landscapes bearing traces of human activity. Key themes include: Thinkings, Cool Physics, 宇宙は数学の言葉で書かれている (The Universe is Written in the Language of Mathematics, and Commons – photographing experimental facilities, equipment, and blackboards within scientific laboratories; 根ノ国 (Ne-no-Kuni), Distance, and うぶすな (Ubusuna) – photographing the Izumo region, his birthplace, known for its rich nature, ancient myths and history, and unique culture; and Mounds – focusing on ancient burial mounds existing alongside contemporary life.

From 2015 to 2025, he co-managed RED Photo Gallery (Tokyo). Master of Management of Technology (Tokyo Institute of Technology)
